The Department of Anesthesia, Perioperative, & Pain Medicine, Alberta Health Services, Calgary Zone, invites applications for the position of Psychiatrist, within the Chronic Pain Centre, at the Richmond Road Diagnostic & Treatment Centre, in Calgary. The position will be for 0.2 FTE. The ideal starting date will be August1, 2022, though this can be negotiated. Applicants available beyond that date will also be considered.

Alberta Health Services Calgary Zone is one of the largest fully integrated, publicly funded health care systems in Canada and serves a population of approximately 1.4 million people living in an area of 40,000 square kilometers. An additional 300,000 people in Southern Alberta, Southwestern Saskatchewan, and Southeastern British Columbia access health care in the Zone.

The Calgary Pain Program is an interdisciplinary pain centre providing care in a group and/or 1:1 setting. It provides care in the framework of a biopsychosocial model. There presently are 5.5 FTE psychologists working at the centre. The psychiatrist would support the psychologists and provide diagnostic and therapeutic care to patients. Areas in need are: diagnostic clarity; medication review and recommendations; help with connecting to community services (including collaboration with family physicians). Expertise and experience with trauma care would be an asset.

The successful candidate should be able to work with a multi-disciplinary team, possess superior interpersonal communication skills, and have a strong commitment to delivering innovative chronic paincare. The Calgary Chronic Pain Center supports the academic mission by teaching all levels of learners and participating in clinical and academic research. The position encompasses full clinical practice including on-call and appointment as a University of Calgary Clinical Lecturer.

Applicants must be a qualified MD or equivalent, with specialist certification in Psychiatry and be eligible for licensure in the Province of Alberta.
